Welcome

Miniature Apocalypse is all about helping modelers get their figures built with a modicum of quality, on budget and on the table. Remember the game store wants your hard earned money, but they should deserve it before you hand it to them.

Canoptek Spyder Build & Paint

Painting The Canoptek Spyder  |

Painting the Canoptek Spyder was fun and quick. I'm adding this Canoptek Spyder to my 2 day Necron army, so the scheme is a simple 2 tone, silver and dark green with orange and green accent colours.

Starting with my usual, chaos black primer. I coated the whole model with Duplicolour, Nissan Silver(drk gry 463). This is available at almost any auto supply stores, make sure you use gloves and a mask when you work with this type of paints. After a tape off of the areas I want to stay in the metal, then i sprayed the back carapace with a single coat of Army painter Angel Green. I always carefully remove the tape right away to avoid any sticking to the paint.

At this point I added 2 coats of GW Dark Angel Green to the thorax, legs and head. once this was dry I painted the center sphere on top and bottom in a coat of Solar Orange Foundation. To highlight this i blended it down with white. I did the same with Goblin Green on the top of the spine. Once these areas were dry I gave them a coat Future floor polish (yes, floor polish, it's the best acrylic gloss I've found), to achieve a glass like quality.

For the final stage i used two oil based paint pens, one was a sharpie Green (I like this for the darker of my two stages of line highlighting). The second Pen is a Michaels house brand Lime Green. I tried this one because it was cheap, but it ends up to be a brighter colour than the sharpie. I recommend Buying the medium to fine point pens then sharpening them with a knife. This way you have more control over the line width. By using the paint pens and spray bombs i find i save 30% of my painting time and get good results.

Actual paint time on this Figure is only 20 minutes, but i have a scheme in mind i think i can do in about 10 minutes (but, well see) .

Just for fun here is GW's fluff for the Canoptek Spyder.
Unlike their Necron masters, Canoptek Spyders never sleep, but while away the aeons servicing the structures of their Tomb World. Though the Canoptek Spyder is essentially an automated drone, it is still a formidable foe when the situation demands. Any enemy foolish enough to stray within reach of the Canoptek Spyder will have flesh scoured from bone by an array of mechanical tools and pincers. If a triad of Canoptek Spyders operate together, one takes overall command, harnessing the processing capacity of the others to create a supermind far greater than the sum of its parts. This hyper-efficiency is passed on to all Canoptek Wraiths and Canoptek Scarabs in the immediate vicinity, allowing a co-ordinated and precise response to any threat - and ensuring the safety of their slumbering masters.

This Video is the build and how i based the model, using sand, grass and Future floor polish.
