Welcome

Miniature Apocalypse is all about helping modelers get their figures built with a modicum of quality, on budget and on the table. Remember the game store wants your hard earned money, but they should deserve it before you hand it to them.

Saved by Age of Sigmar

So...there I was, just enjoying married life and being happy. then out of the blue a friend says "you should try age of Sigmar".
Well I can tell you when I first think about Warhammer fantasy all I could picture was WAAC(win at all costs) players and pushing figures around in moment trays...not my thing. So you know, I have been playing Warhammer 40k since 1989, and I've had almost every army except tau. Orcs were my only fantasy army but I never really enjoyed "pushing trays". Warhammer Fantasy was always interesting to me but my space mens always won over when it came to my hobby budget.  this brings us to present day. having been on a break from gaming for the last year, I was in need of a game to play. there it was, 4 pages and all the mayhem one could muster. My first question was how many points do I need, my friend smiles and said "no points" then how do I know what to bring? "bring what you want" he said smiling. I was confused at first, then it hit me...I could just play what I wanted and have fun...no point counting, no min/maxing, no spreadsheets to figure out what can be used with what. There it was the holy grail of gaming...just having fun. Now this left me high and giddy on my new unbound freedom, then it hit me..I don't have any fantasy figures...Thinking back to my fleeting glances of other tables playing fantasy, I remembered the Tomb Kings. Tomb Kings now that was a line of figures I always lusted for. So choice and wallet in hand I walked up to my FLGS and kicked the door open and proclaimed in my most regal tone" give me one tomb kings army kind shop keep" Darren looked at me and said "they don't make them anymore. That line was cancelled last month".  My heart dropped, my lunch came up and I fainted with confused hate and indignation(I may be taking some liberties here for dramatic licence). he then said to me " Get up people are looking. may have some still in the back" Bam! I had my first piece, a Necrosphinx.

In a panic I ran from game store to game store, buying one of every unit I could find. luckily in one week, a lot of gas and phone calls to stores I managed to complete my force. Standing with pride and patting myself on the back at my brilliant purchases I almost beamed with a delirious light of my own, My loving wife looking on said these words of encouragement "Now you just have to get off your ass, assemble and paint them.". "Ha" I thought, I had her this time,  I used to be a great painter(obviously self delusion had taken complete control at this point). Then like a bolt from Tzeentch him/her/itself? it hit me...I had given all my paint away last summer to a player just starting out. crap!. but with some weaseling and promises of clean rooms and walked dogs my wife loaned me the cash to set up a painting room and get paint and tools. these photos are the result.

I'm back ladies and gents. Hope you enjoy the pictures and there are tons more to come. As always I hope you can take away something from my work and apply it to your own.
Have fun and see you in the 4x8 arena.

  4. The bone on these guys was super simple. I painted the bone areas cream then once it was dry I generously coated it with agrax earth shade. On the skeletons this was OK because I wanted them to look dirty. But the other method is to paint it cream colored then gently dry brush white and mix lahmium medium with a small amount of Agra about 5/1 and paint this into the deepest areas then RE highlight the ridges with white. I did the last technique on the giant three toe Willy.
